Wike Warns PDP of Possible 2027 Defeat Without Internal Reforms
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it may face another electoral loss in 2027 if it fails to resolve its internal crises promptly. He accused the party’s leadership of promoting impunity, marginalization, and poor political decisions, which he claimed contributed to its defeat in the 2023 elections.
Wike expressed disappointment over the PDP’s repeated mistakes, stating, “The PDP cannot win in 2027 if it remains divided and driven by personal interests.”
He specifically criticized the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for the ongoing dispute over the National Secretary position, asserting that Senator Sam Anyanwu is the legitimate officeholder. Wike warned that he would challenge the validity of any NEC meeting held without Anyanwu’s participation, citing a Supreme Court ruling that reversed an earlier Court of Appeal decision.
Addressing political alliances, Wike came to the defense of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who have been accused of supporting President Bola Tinubu. He argued that backing Tinubu should not be seen as disloyalty, noting that other prominent PDP figures have done the same without facing criticism.
Regarding the political tension in Rivers State, Wike revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently met with him in Abuja, alongside two APC governors, in a bid to mediate peace. However, Wike remained doubtful about Fubara’s commitment to reconciliation, citing ongoing hostility from the governor’s supporters and a lack of meaningful engagement with key stakeholders.
