Davido Alongside Entertainment and Business Moguls Visit President Tinubu, Sparks Mixed Reactions Online
Afrobeats star Davido stirred online buzz after visiting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, joined by Cubana Chief Priest and Ubi Franklin in a cheerful display of camaraderie.
The visit sparked controversy, with fans questioning Davido’s alignment after recently criticizing Nigeria’s economy abroad. Critics are calling out the perceived contradiction in his political engagement.
Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known by his stage name Davido, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa over the weekend, setting social media abuzz.
Accompanying Davido were Cubana Chief Priest, a popular nightlife entrepreneur, and Ubi Franklin, a seasoned talent manager, two influential names in Nigeria’s entertainment and business circles.
Clips shared online showed the trio in high spirits, laughing and exchanging handshakes with the President inside his office. Davido even playfully introduced his entourage, saying, “They are both your members, sir. They are APC,” flashing a smile.
Ubi Franklin seized the moment to highlight his political engagement to the President, mentioning that he had traveled across 15 states to campaign for President Tinubu during the 2023 elections. Tinubu nodded in approval and said, “Very good. We succeeded and made it to the presidency.”
Cubana Chief Priest, always bold, threw in a cheeky remark about the next election: “We will succeed again in 2027,” drawing laughter and agreement from those in the room.
This visit was part of a series of high-level engagements Davido and his entourage embarked on last week, with notable appearances at the offices of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
But the visit has not gone unnoticed or uncriticized. Many Nigerians took to social media to question Davido’s alignment with the same government” he recently criticized.
In a U.S. interview just weeks earlier, Davido had painted a bleak picture of Nigeria’s economic situation, urging African-Americans to think twice before traveling to the country.“Leave America and go where?” he said. “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles, the exchange rate is messed up, and the price of petrol is too high.”
Now, fans and critics alike are raising eyebrows at what they see as mixed signals, asking why he’s cozying up to an administration he seemed to distance himself from not long ago.
