Amid National National Priorities Burkina Faso Declines Burna Boy’s Offer to Perform a Free Concert
Burna Boy’s offer to host a free concert in Burkina Faso has been respectfully declined by President Ibrahim Traoré, who emphasized the nation’s need to stay focused on security and political stability.
While the gesture was appreciated, authorities urged the superstar to take the show elsewhere. Burna Boy continues his global tour ahead of his July album release.
Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has reportedly turned down Burna Boy’s offer to host a free concert in the country, citing the need to avoid distractions as the nation focuses on security and political stability.
The news was reported by popular Burkinabé blog @trulilgram, which claimed the president appreciated the gesture but declined, stating:
“President Ibrahim Traoré said he appreciate the love but he doesn’t need distraction in Burkina Faso Ei, and the people of Burkina Faso BH said Burna Boy should take the concert somewhere else, that they need to focus on their goal to protect their president.”

The Nigerian superstar had made the offer public via his Instagram Story on May 17, 2025, writing:
“If possible it would be an honor for me to give the people of Burkina Faso a Free BURNA BOY Concert sometime this year Insha Allah.”
Burna Boy’s message sparked buzz among fans across West Africa, especially given the country’s rising profile under the leadership of Captain Traoré, who took power in a 2022 military coup. His strong anti-imperialist rhetoric and bold national reforms have earned him widespread support, particularly among youth who see him as a symbol of African self-determination.
Despite the rejection, Burna Boy’s global momentum continues. In April, he made history with a sold-out performance at Stade de France in Paris, followed by a packed show at The Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England’s largest indoor venue.
The Grammy winner is also gearing up to release his eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, on July 11, 2025, featuring hit singles like “Higher” and “Bundle By Bundle.”
