Sarah Martins Apologizes to Davido After Backlash Over Comment on his Wife, Chioma
Actress Sarah Martins has issued a public apology to Davido after suggesting his promo campaign should’ve honored wife Chioma, sparking backlash and a fiery response from the singer.
She admitted her comment stemmed from a misleading blog post and expressed regret, emphasizing it came from admiration, not disrespect. Davido had privately urged her to delete it.
Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has publicly apologized to Afrobeats superstar Davido after facing backlash over a now-deleted Instagram post suggesting his recent restaurant campaign should have been dedicated to his wife, Chioma.
On May 26, 2025, Sarah commented on what she believed to be a newly opened restaurant launched by Davido. In her post, she suggested that the venture should have honored Chioma, whom fans widely recognize as a talented home cook.
“This is coming from a place of LOVE because I am a huge fan of OBO,” she wrote. “I honestly feel Davido’s restaurant should have been opened for Chioma or probably in her name because we’ve always known her to be a passionate, fantastic chef.”
However, the restaurant claim was shut down quickly by Davido, expressing that it was a promotional campaign in partnership with foodcourt app for his album 5ive and not a physical establishment. In his response, he commented:
“U no get sense… no restaurant was opened. That was a promotional campaign… now take my wife’s picture off your page.”
The singer’s reaction quickly went viral, with fans applauding his firm defense of Chioma and criticizing Sarah for what they saw as unnecessary interference.
In response, Sarah deleted her original post and shared a video issuing a heartfelt apology. She explained that her comment was based on a misleading post by food blogger Opeyemi, which made her believe Davido had launched a restaurant.
“I’m truly sorry, Davido,” she said. “I acted on misinformation. I’ve always been a huge fan and meant no harm. Please forgive me, it was never from a place of disrespect but love.”
The video also featured a screenshot of her private exchange with Davido, who had asked her directly to take down the post.
