Verydarkman, whose real name is still largely unknown, rose to fame through social media for his passionate criticism of unregulated skincare products and for speaking out on pressing societal issues. His outspoken remarks on the controversial death of singer Mohbad brought him even more attention.
Since the trailer’s release, X (formerly Twitter) has been flooded with reactions. Some users expressed disappointment in Gentle Jack for accepting the role.
“Gentle Jack shouldn’t have made a mess of himself by taking up this role. T “It’s honestly embarrassing to watch,” wrote @debo_A1.
@mensahtitus5 added, “He’s a veteran in African cinema. This role is beneath him. Quite pathetic!”
Others, however, urged the public to consider the possibility that the film may have been done with Verydarkman’s consent.
“What if they got permission? VDM is alive. If it’s defaming, he can sue,” noted @AustineAluge1.
The scene referencing Mohbad’s death also struck a nerve.
“Let Mohbad rest in peace, for goodness’ sake,” @iam_harryjuana remarked.
As the film continues to stir debate, it remains to be seen whether Verydarkblackman will be embraced as satire or condemned for crossing the line or will it be worth watching.
