NSCDC Vows to Protect Critical Infrastructure Ahead of Biafra Remembrance Day in Anambra
As Biafra Remembrance Day, observed on May 30, draws near, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding key public assets and maintaining peace across the state.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde, gave the assurance during a security assessment visit on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He met with Dr. Josephat Akabuike Chukwudi, Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH-Amaku), as part of wider preventive security measures ahead of the commemorative date declared by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Commandant Maku emphasized that the Corps is fully prepared to carry out its statutory duties of protecting national, state, and local government infrastructure. The visit forms part of a broader strategic initiative to avert any form of vandalism or disruption before, during, or after the May 30 memorial.
He urged residents of Anambra to go about their daily routines without fear, assuring them that the NSCDC is working hand-in-hand with other security agencies to ensure public safety. According to him, adequate security architecture has been established to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Maku warned that individuals or groups planning to carry out any form of sabotage, including vandalism or disruption of economic activities, would face strict legal consequences. “Anyone found attempting to destabilize peace in the state will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” he cautioned.
To strengthen on-ground vigilance, the Commandant has issued firm directives to Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Unit Leaders, and Composite Commanders across the state. These officers are tasked with securing critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, religious centers, government offices, telecommunication installations, electricity substations, recreational facilities, and financial institutions.
All units have been instructed to remain alert and strictly follow the NSCDC’s Standard Operating Procedures, Service Orders, and Rules of Engagement. Supervising officers are expected to ensure full compliance by personnel under their command.
Additionally, Commandant Maku ordered the continued implementation of “Operation Show of Force” a coordinated security patrol in partnership with other law enforcement agencies. This operation aims to reassure the public, deter criminal elements, and enforce a visible security presence across major locations in Anambra State.
As the remembrance day approaches, the NSCDC is urging the public to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security operatives in maintaining peace and order.
