Saudi Temptation: Bruno Fernandes £200m Al-Hilal Move Amid Uncertain Man Utd Future
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is reportedly on the verge of a sensational exit, considering a move to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal. The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder could finalize the switch as early as next week, following advanced discussions between his representatives and Al-Hilal officials.
Sources close to the deal indicate that Fernandes is being offered a staggering £700,000-per-week salary, with a total three-year contract valued at £200 million. The proposed transfer fee, believed to be over £80 million, would also allow him to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where Al-Hilal will face Real Madrid, Pachuca, and Red Bull Salzburg.
Despite leading Manchester United during their post-season tour of Asia and maintaining his trademark intensity and focus on the pitch, Fernandes has not provided firm assurances about his future. His silence has fueled growing speculation within the squad that a departure may be imminent. However, Manchester United appears calm about the situation.

New head coach Ruben Amorim, who has publicly praised Fernandes’ influence, acknowledges the midfielder’s crucial role but also views the financial windfall from a potential sale as an opportunity to refresh the squad. “We’ve discussed this many times,” Amorim said during the tour. “Bruno’s performances, leadership, and passion are clear. He steps up in difficult moments, and that’s what you expect from your captain.” Fernandes, who extended his contract with Manchester United until 2027 last summer, has just completed a season where he was named the club’s player of the year for a record-tying fourth time. He also ended the campaign as the team’s top scorer with 19 goals, highlighting his importance in what many considered a turbulent season.
Nevertheless, not all voices have been supportive. Former United captain Roy Keane has criticized Fernandes’ temperament and discipline, suggesting these issues reflect deeper problems within the club’s structure. As of now, Fernandes is expected to feature in United’s friendly against Hong Kong on Friday. However, with Al-Hilal reportedly setting a deadline for his decision, developments could unfold rapidly in the coming days.
