Abia State Celebrates Officer Ugochukwu Orji for Exemplary Integrity
In a rare but commendable gesture, the government and people of Abia State have chosen to spotlight and celebrate integrity, honesty, and patriotism. Today, the spotlight is on Ugochukwu Orji, an officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service, who stood firm against corruption by rejecting a staggering N10 million bribe and ensuring justice was served.
Officer Orji, an indigene of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area in Abia State, demonstrated an uncommon act of moral courage that has now earned him the admiration and respect of his fellow citizens. The officer’s brave stance came during a critical moment when he was offered the huge sum by a native doctor from Ezeagu in Enugu State, suspected to be involved in illegal activities. Rather than succumbing to the temptation, Orji chose to uphold his oath of service by refusing the money and effecting the arrest of the individual.
This display of integrity did not go unnoticed. As part of the activities marking the second anniversary of Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s administration, Orji is being honored in a public event designed not only to celebrate political achievements but also to reinforce societal values such as honesty, accountability, and ethical conduct.

The recognition comes during a grand civic reception being held in honor of Governor Otti, whose leadership over the past two years has drawn both local and national attention. Known for his reform-driven approach and people-oriented governance, Governor Otti’s administration has focused on transparency, infrastructural renewal, economic revitalization, and a renewed social contract with the people of Abia. Honouring Orji at such a symbolic moment sends a strong message: that the state values not just political success but also moral uprightness in public service.
At the reception venue, Officer Orji was seen posing for photographs with several dignitaries, including Rt. Hon. Ginger O. Onwusibe, the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. The gesture by Hon. Onwusibe further cements the pride felt by the people of the constituency who view Orji’s conduct as a shining example for others to follow.
The story of Officer Orji comes at a time when public confidence in many government institutions is eroding due to widespread corruption and misuse of office. His action offers a refreshing counter-narrative a reminder that integrity is still possible, and that it should be celebrated, promoted, and rewarded.
Citizens across Abia State and beyond have taken to social media to applaud the honor, calling it “a timely reminder that doing the right thing is never out of fashion.” For many, Orji’s recognition is more than just a moment of praise; it is a call to action for civil servants, security personnel, and everyday Nigerians to uphold the values that can truly transform the nation.
As Abia State continues to forge a path of progressive leadership and accountable governance, the honor bestowed on Officer Ugochukwu Orji serves as both a reward for virtue and a beacon for the future.
