Amaechi Says He Declined to Support or Work with Tinubu
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that he once informed President Bola Tinubu of his refusal to work with or support him, citing concerns over leadership capacity.
Amaechi made this known on Saturday during an event held in Abuja to celebrate his 60th birthday. According to him, his decision not to back Tinubu stemmed from doubts about the President’s ability to effectively govern Nigeria.
“In Yola, I told Tinubu directly that I wouldn’t support or work for him, and I stood by that decision. I didn’t vote for him,” Amaechi stated. “My stance was based on the issue of capacity.”
He also criticized the political culture in the country, accusing political leaders of exploiting ethnic and religious sentiments to manipulate voters, particularly those who are uneducated or unaware.
“Many people vote based on ethnicity or religion because they’re influenced by those in power. After elections, leaders begin plotting to cling to power rather than serve the people,” he said.
Amaechi further expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration, highlighting the continued economic hardship and accusing those in power of mismanaging public funds.
“Those who voted for a Muslim-Muslim ticket should now demand results. Let the markets show the benefits. Poverty is being used as a tool for control, while public resources meant for schools and hospitals are being diverted,” he added.
The former minister also hinted at the possibility of supporting a unified opposition to challenge the current administration if it becomes necessary to address the country’s challenges.
“If the opposition can provide a way out of this mess, then we should rally behind them,” he concluded.
