Anambra Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Kidnap and Murder of Female Bank Manager

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in Anambra State, the Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of being involved in the abduction and brutal killing of a female bank manager, despite collecting a ransom of fourteen million naira (₦14 million) from her family. The arrest, which took place on the 28th of May 2025, marks a major step toward bringing the perpetrators to justice and dismantling the criminal network behind the heinous act.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were identified as Monday Egbe, a 32-year-old male, and Kenneth Nnoga, aged 28. Both individuals were apprehended after a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by police operatives, who tracked them to a hideout in a neighboring state. The arrests come months after the chilling discovery of the victim’s lifeless body on the 13th of January, 2025.

The incident initially shocked residents of Onitsha and the entire Anambra State, especially as it involved a respected female bank manager whose identity has been withheld for security reasons. It was reported that the victim was abducted by unknown individuals and later killed, even after her family had paid a ransom of ₦14 million. Her body was eventually discovered along Nnobi Road, with her eyes bound an indication of the harrowing ordeal she must have suffered in the hands of her captors.

Since the occurrence of the crime, the Anambra State Police Command has vowed not to rest until the culprits were found. True to that promise, operatives diligently pursued every lead and intelligence available to them, culminating in the successful arrest of the two suspects. Both men are currently undergoing thorough interrogation to extract vital information about the operations of their gang, including the roles of other accomplices yet to be captured.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to upholding law and order in the state. He stressed that the Police Force is firmly dedicated to its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, and that serious criminal cases like this will always be thoroughly investigated and followed through to the end, no matter how long it takes.

“The safety of Ndi Anambra and all residents remains our utmost priority,” CP Orutugu stated. “We will not relent in our duty to track down and bring to book all individuals who think they can operate outside the law and get away with it. This arrest is a message to others involved in similar criminal acts: you will be found, and you will face justice.”

The arrest of these two suspects offers hope to the victim’s grieving family and the general public that justice will eventually prevail. It also sends a strong signal to criminal elements that Anambra State is no longer a safe haven for criminality, as law enforcement agencies are actively stepping up their game in combating insecurity across the state.

Investigations are still ongoing, and the Police Command has encouraged members of the public with useful information to come forward and assist in ensuring that all individuals connected to the case are apprehended and prosecuted.
