Pastor Kumuyi Recounts Wife’s Death, Declares War on Satan in Her Memory
In a deeply emotional and soul-stirring testimony, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, has reflected on the painful death of his first wife, attributing her untimely demise to a spiritual attack orchestrated by the devil in his absence.
Speaking during the Global Workers’ Conference at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Pastor Kumuyi recounted the tragic incident that occurred on April 11, 2009, when he was away ministering during a church retreat. That fateful day, he said, marked not just a devastating personal loss, but the beginning of a renewed spiritual mandate to confront and “avenge” what he called the evil act of Satan.
“I was preaching here on Saturday, 11th April 2009, and the devil worked on my absence,” Kumuyi narrated. “My wife was at home because she had a challenge. I was driving out, the devil came, but I did not remember to close the spiritual door that nobody will sneak into that place (my house). When I finished the Faith Clinic that morning, I received a message that my beloved wife was gone.”
The respected holiness preacher revealed how he rushed to his residence at the International Bible Training Centre (IBTC), only to find that the tragic news was true.
“I ran to IBTC. I saw it had happened. I met some people there praying, but the Lord told me something very significant He said, ‘Let it go. Don’t dwell on it, don’t mourn endlessly.’ And that was a turning point for me,” Kumuyi recalled with visible emotion.
Rather than fall into despair, Kumuyi said he chose to turn his grief into a spiritual strategy. According to him, instead of allowing sorrow to consume him, he made the conscious decision to intensify his evangelical outreach. This, he said, was not just about preaching but a deliberate act of “revenge” against Satan.
“I let it go,” he continued, “but from that day, I said, ‘that one happened, this other one will no more happen.’ Since that time, to revenge on the devil, I have gone to many places. I have covered most of the local governments in Nigeria, I have gone to almost all the nations of Africa, and I have been to all the continents of the world.”
According to Kumuyi, his travels and intensified ministry have not only spread the gospel but brought about remarkable manifestations of divine power. “Blind eyes have opened, deaf ears have opened, the lame have risen up and walked,” he declared. “And now I’m getting to another level dead people are now being raised. So I’ve come to tell you, those that have gone have gone. The water under the bridge has passed. Now, in your family, you will be in charge.”
He charged his listeners to rise above personal pain and take charge of their lives and homes spiritually. “Anywhere I go now, I will be in charge. Nothing will be allowed to steal anything away,” he declared with unwavering conviction.
The revered clergyman emphasized that his wife’s death, though tragic, became a catalyst for greater spiritual authority and outreach. By sharing his story, he hoped to inspire others not to surrender to grief but to allow their pain to birth purpose.
Pastor Kumuyi’s testimony struck a powerful chord with attendees, who responded with tears, prayers, and renewed commitment. Many viewed his courage and faith in the face of personal tragedy as a testimony of the sustaining power of God’s grace.
Though years have passed since the incident, Kumuyi continues to honor his late wife’s memory not through mourning, but through a vigorous pursuit of his global mission. His story is a profound reminder that even in the darkest moments, divine purpose can shine through.
As he concluded his message, Kumuyi reaffirmed his unshakable trust in God: “This ministry will continue to grow. The devil thought he could stop it, but he only pushed us to greater heights. I am avenging her loss not with bitterness but with every soul we win, every healing that happens, and every life that is transformed.”
