Queen Mercy Atang Explains Why She Unfollowed Her Husband and Deleted Wedding Photos
Big Brother Naija alum Queen Mercy Atang has finally addressed the buzz surrounding her unexpected social media moves, including unfollowing her husband, David Oyekanmi, and deleting their wedding pictures from Instagram.
The couple, who tied the knot in March 2024, sparked widespread speculation in October of the same year when Queen Mercy appeared to wipe all traces of their union from her Instagram account. Fans immediately began to wonder if there was trouble in paradise.
However, in a recent interview, the reality star cleared the air, explaining that the decision was not about marital issues but rather a deliberate move to protect her relationship from public scrutiny.
“I just wanted to take my relationship off social media,” she said. “Because my husband’s account is public, a lot of girls think it’s okay to slide into his DMs some with good intentions, some with not-so-good ones.”
Queen Mercy went on to say that her actions were inspired by other public figures who choose to keep their marriages private. She explained that unfollowing her husband and removing their wedding photos was an attempt to draw a boundary between their personal lives and the sometimes harsh glare of online attention.

Ironically, her attempt to dial down the exposure had the opposite effect. Fans and gossip blogs were quick to assume that the couple was facing marital issues. Realizing that her actions had been misunderstood, Queen Mercy eventually reinstated her wedding photos and re-added her husband’s name to her Instagram bio.
While the initial move stirred curiosity and concern, her explanation has helped put things into perspective. For Queen Mercy Atang, it wasn’t about a falling out it was about protecting what matters most, away from the noise of the digital world.
