Nollywood’s new film, VeryDarkMan, starring Gentle Jack, is stirring online buzz, but not for the right reasons.
The real VDM has slammed the movie as misleading and irritating, accusing the producers of distorting his life story without his consent, despite praising Jack’s uncanny resemblance to him.
The movie, titled “VeryDarkMan”, features veteran actor Gentle Jack in the lead role. Since its release, the film has stirred widespread reactions across social media platforms.
Reacting to the production, VDM expressed strong disappointment. He criticized the filmmakers for failing to consult him or seek his input before creating a story based on his life. According to him, the movie did not capture the true essence of his journey or the reasons behind the creation of the VDM movement.
Although he acknowledged that Gentle Jack bore a striking resemblance to him and praised the casting choice, VDM made it clear that the storyline left much to be desired. He admitted to watching the film but found the portrayal irritating and unrepresentative of his experiences.
Taking to social media, he wrote:
“By now I am sure most of you have seen the movie NOLLYWOOD DID WHERE LEGENDARY GENTLE JACK PLAY ME(very dark man)Honestly i am not happy about the movie, it cr!nggd me I was so irrrtdd even watching it, the got the right character and our look alike however the story was just !rrrt@tnng.”
VDM’s reaction has sparked further debate among fans and film critics, with many questioning Nollywood’s approach to telling real-life stories without proper consultation.
