“Agents Are Playing God”: BBNaija Star Uriel Oputa Laments Property Scam Experience
Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has sounded the alarm on rising real estate scams in Nigeria, sharing how agents demanded illegal viewing fees and almost duped her multiple times while searching for a home.
Her bold revelation is sparking calls for industry reform, as many Nigerians resonate with her ordeal navigating shady property listings and unscrupulous agents.
Reality TV personality and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has taken to social media to express her frustration with the real estate industry in Nigeria, accusing some property agents of exploiting and scamming unsuspecting clients.

In a series of posts, Uriel recounted her recent experiences while searching for a new place. She revealed that one agent demanded $20 from her just to view a property, while another insisted she pay ₦25,000 before granting access to inspect a home she was interested in.
“Some of these agents are out here playing God,” Uriel wrote, voicing her disappointment and concern over what she described as unethical and illegal practices within the property space.
She warned others to be cautious and shared that she narrowly avoided being scammed multiple times. “If not for my quick thinking, I would have sent money to the wrong people, not once, not twice, but three times. This is scary,” she stated.
Uriel lamented that the property search process has become increasingly dangerous, likening it to navigating a “minefield” due to fake agents and fraudulent listings.
Calling for industry reforms, she emphasized the need for regulation and consumer protection: “We need to start having real conversations about regulation and protection for everyday people. This isn’t normal, and it shouldn’t be accepted.”
Her message struck a chord with many of her followers, sparking conversation online about the growing number of real estate scams and the challenges faced by prospective tenants in major Nigerian cities.
