Burna Boy Responds After Reports of Burkina Faso Rejecting His Free Concert Offer
Burna Boy has fired back after reports claimed Burkina Faso’s president rejected his offer for a free concert, sparking online mockery.
The artist defended his intentions, slamming critics for spreading negativity and questioning his commitment to Africa despite his consistent efforts to uplift the continent through music and unity.
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has broken his silence following reports that Burkina Faso’s President, Ibrahim Traoré, turned down his offer to hold a free concert in the country.
The story, which went viral online, claimed that Burna Boy had proposed to host a no-cost show for the people of Burkina Faso as a goodwill gesture. However, the reported response from the country’s leader was that Burkina Faso needed “no distractions,” implying that the concert was not a priority at this time. The news stirred a wave of reactions online, with some critics ridiculing Burna Boy over what they saw as a public rejection.
In response, Burna Boy broke his silence with a fiery post on social media, expressing both shock and frustration over the backlash. He clarified that his offer came from a place of love and unity, and that the negativity directed toward him was both unfair and uncalled for.
“I said I wanted to do a free show in Burkina Faso, and while there was a lot of positivity, some people still managed to say the most unbelievably negative things that truly shocked me,” he wrote.

He was unapologetic in addressing his critics head-on:
“I’m sorry, but if your only contribution to the world is typing hateful comments or ranting into your phone for social media clout, you are in no position to speak on my name.”
He also addressed those questioning his intentions and efforts in Africa:
“How can anyone tell me what to do for any part of my home Africa when no one in your family lineage has ever done anything meaningful for this continent or even the world at large?”
Burna Boy emphasized that he has nothing to gain from such efforts and owes no one anything, but continues to contribute positively out of personal conviction. He ended his message by reaffirming his integrity and dismissing the criticism:
