Osimhen Ends Galatasaray Spell as Transfer Battle Brews: Man United, Saudi Clubs Circle Nigerian Star

Victor Osimhen has ended his loan spell at Galatasaray, returning to Napoli after a stellar season that reignited his value and sparked major transfer buzz.

With Manchester United and Saudi clubs circling, the summer window could decide whether passion or paycheck guides his next big move.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has officially concluded his loan spell with Turkish champions Galatasaray, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated transfer sagas of the summer window. The 26-year-old forward returns to Napoli following a season that reignited his form and market value, after falling out of favor with new Napoli boss Antonio Conte.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan in September 2024, played a pivotal role in securing the Turkish Super Lig title for the Istanbul club. His dynamic performances and lethal goal-scoring ability saw him net 36 goals across all competitions, instantly becoming a fan favorite and a crucial component of Galatasaray’s title charge.

The club confirmed his departure in a bittersweet statement, saying: “An unexpected farewell. Osimhen’s Galatasaray adventure has ended.” However, Galatasaray remains hopeful of a permanent move, should negotiations with Napoli and the player allow for it.

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s next destination remains the subject of intense speculation. Reports indicate that several Saudi Pro League clubs have shown strong interest in luring the Nigerian striker with lucrative offers. Still, all eyes are on Manchester United, who are actively pursuing attacking reinforcements following their failed attempt to sign Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea in a £30 million deal.

United’s transfer chief, Matt Hargreaves, is said to be in Naples attempting to negotiate terms with Napoli for a possible Osimhen move. With the club eager to avoid another last-minute breakdown like last year’s failed transfer, United are pushing for a swift and decisive outcome.

Interestingly, United head coach Rúben Amorim has issued a stern message regarding any potential signing of Osimhen. In a recent press conference, Amorim made it clear that only players who are passionate about representing the club, and not just drawn by Champions League football or financial benefits, will be considered.

“If a player only wants to come to Man United to play the Champions League, then he won’t come. We want players who want to represent United,” Amorim said, originally referring to another target, Viktor Gyokeres, but implying the same standard applies to Osimhen.

That puts the decision firmly in Osimhen’s hands. Does he see Manchester United as a footballing home and a platform to showcase his talent, or will financial incentives sway his next move?

With the summer transfer window officially open, briefly paused for the FIFA Club World Cup before reopening on June 16, the race to sign one of Africa’s most prolific forwards is heating up fast.

Napoli are reportedly open to letting him go, but will demand a significant transfer fee to match Osimhen’s reputation and goal tally. United, still reeling from recent setbacks, may see him as the missing piece in their attacking puzzle, but only if the motives align.
