Rita Edochie Escalates Feud With Nneoma Ukpabi, Alleges Financial Misconduct in AGN
Rita Edochie and Nneoma Ukpabi’s feud has exploded into a full-blown Nollywood showdown, with accusations flying beyond fashion into alleged financial misconduct.
What began as a critique of a daring wedding outfit has morphed into a bitter public battle shaking the industry and sparking fierce online reactions.
The public spat between veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie and her junior colleague, Nneoma Ukpabi, has taken a dramatic new turn as Rita launches a fresh wave of accusations following their disagreement over what she termed “indecent dressing.”
The controversy began when Nneoma Ukpabi appeared at actress Ruby Ojiakor’s wedding in a revealing dress that prominently displayed her cleavage. The outfit quickly went viral and stirred backlash from fans and critics alike, with Rita Edochie weighing in with a sharp critique.
In her initial statement, Rita condemned what she described as the growing trend of indecent dressing, particularly at formal events like weddings. “This disturbing trend has reached alarming proportions, with many individuals embracing indecent dressing as a norm. The consequences of this behavior are far-reaching, contributing to a decline in moral values and respect for oneself and others,” Rita said.
Nneoma, in response, issued a fiery rebuttal. In a video posted online, Nneoma addressed Rita directly and accused her of being judgmental. She also hinted at revealing undisclosed details about the veteran actress if the public criticism continued. “Remove my name from your mouth or I will open your file. Nobody has a monopoly on words. If you don’t respect yourself, I’ll show you that I’m not the one to mess with,” she said.
Undeterred by the warning, Rita has now returned with a scathing response, going beyond the issue of fashion to level serious allegations about Nneoma’s past. In a lengthy post, the veteran actress claimed she once chaired a probe panel under the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in Imo State, during which Nneoma allegedly pleaded with her to help cover up financial misconduct.
“You kept calling and pleading with me to help cover you up… because you embezzled their millions. I said no and presented your records as dirty as they were,” Rita stated in a post.
She further accused Nneoma of gaining her AGN position through dubious means and suggested that her disapproval of Nneoma stemmed not only from her style but also from her alleged history of irresponsibility. “You are a bad influence and should not be mingled with,” she declared.
Rita dismissed Nneoma’s claim that she was using the controversy to boost her own online profile, calling it “laughable.” “You lack media visibility… your followership is nothing to write home about,” she added.
