Delta Governor Oborevwori Vows to Sack Underperforming Commissioners

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has issued a strong warning to cabinet members, stating their performance will determine whether they remain in office or not.

He dismissed rumours of a cabinet shake-up but insisted non-performing commissioners will be dropped. Oborevwori urged creativity, accountability, and visible results, stressing that underperformance will not be tolerated in his administration.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to members of his cabinet, stating clearly that only those who deliver on their responsibilities will retain their positions in his administration. He made this known during the official commissioning of newly constructed duplexes at the commissioners’ quarters in Asaba, the state capital, on Monday, June 2.

The governor used the occasion to emphasize that his government is focused on results and will not condone any form of underperformance from public office holders. While addressing the commissioners, Oborevwori made it clear that any appointee who fails to meet expectations risks being removed from office.

Dispelling rumours that the current cabinet may soon be dissolved, the governor categorically stated that there are no plans to initiate a wholesale cabinet reshuffle. However, he did not rule out the possibility of dropping individuals who are not pulling their weight.

“There is no plan to dissolve the cabinet, but if you are not performing, you cannot stay,” the governor said. “Like now, two or three people are not doing well. I told one of them today at the chapel. You are not doing well.”

Oborevwori urged all commissioners to rise to the occasion by showing innovation, creativity, and clear results in their respective ministries. He challenged them to come up with new initiatives that would boost the visibility and impact of their work, stressing that the days of complacency are over.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, making it known that commissioners will be directly answerable for the successes or failures recorded under their watch. According to him, it is the responsibility of each commissioner to seek out the governor with their progress reports and project proposals, not the other way around.

“I am not going to be chasing any commissioner around,” Oborevwori stated. “If there is a challenge in your ministry, you will be held responsible. If your ministry is doing well, it shows you are performing. That is what I want to see.”

Governor Oborevwori’s message to his cabinet was unmistakable: perform or be replaced. His remarks reflect a strong resolve to run a result-oriented administration driven by measurable performance and public accountability.
