Hojlund Eyes Inter Milan Exit as Man United Consider Forward’s Future Amid Struggles
Rasmus Hojlund may be eyeing a swift exit from Manchester United, with Inter Milan showing growing interest in bringing the Danish striker back to Serie A.
After struggling to impress at Old Trafford, Hojlund is reportedly open to a fresh start, as doubts grow over his long-term future under manager Ruben Amorim.
Rasmus Hojlund’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an early end, with reports suggesting the Danish forward is exploring a potential return to Italy through a move to Inter Milan.
The 22-year-old striker, who joined the Red Devils from Atalanta for over £70 million, has struggled to meet expectations in the Premier League. After a bright spell in Serie A, where he emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young attackers, Hojlund has found it difficult to replicate that form at Old Trafford. His underwhelming goal tally and lack of consistency have fueled ongoing doubts about his long-term role in United’s attack.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are monitoring the situation closely and is keen on offering Hojlund an escape route. The Italian giants are currently rebuilding their squad following a crushing 5-0 defeat to PSG in the UEFA Champions League final, a loss that ended their dreams of a treble. With their attacking options needing reinforcement, Inter view Hojlund as a viable option despite his recent dip in form.
A return to Serie A, where he previously thrived, could prove beneficial for both club and player. Inter’s interest in Hojlund is reportedly gaining traction due to the strong ties his representatives have built with the Nerazzurri’s board. The player himself is said to be unhappy in Manchester and open to a fresh start in a more familiar setting.
Despite the striker’s evident potential, his time at United has been marked by frustration. He had to wait until Boxing Day to score his first Premier League goal, and he managed only 10 goals across all competitions this past season, just four of which came in the league.
There have also been concerns about his readiness to lead the line at such a young age. Speaking candidly in an earlier interview,
Hojlund admitted that the journey has been lonely at times, saying, “It would have been nice to have a bit of support.”
However, new United manager Ruben Amorim has continued to back the Dane publicly, praising his work ethic and attitude.
“I’m happy, of course, all the team has to improve, but the way he runs, he fights for every ball, loses a lot of duels, wins some duels, he needs to improve the connection. But he is improving,” Amorim said. “I’m really happy with him; he just needs to continue working hard, and better things will come.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s transfer activity continues to raise eyebrows. The club recently completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, while also acquiring Joshua Zirkzee, another young forward whose performances have yet to impress. With mounting pressure to deliver results, United’s recruitment strategy has come under intense scrutiny.
In a twist, there are also claims that United are working to secure Hojlund on a new five-year contract, convinced he remains a key part of their future. The club reportedly believes the young striker still has the talent to become a top-tier performer and is determined to help him realize his potential at Old Trafford.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on whether Hojlund chooses to stay and fight for his place or opts for a fresh start back in Serie A.
