Simi Speaks Out: “Stop Calling My Daughter Duduke” Here’s Why

Simi has politely asked fans to stop calling her daughter “Duduke,” a nickname inspired by her popular pregnancy-era song of the same title.

The singer explained she prefers her daughter be addressed by her real name, Deja, as the term “Duduke” holds no personal meaning beyond the song’s rhythm.

Nigerian music star Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has opened up about something that has been quietly bothering her the nickname “Duduke” that fans have affectionately given to her daughter, Deja.

In a recent interview, the award-winning singer candidly shared her thoughts on the matter, expressing that while she knows the nickname comes from a place of love, it’s not one she personally embraces when it comes to her child.

“I know people mean well when they call her Duduke,” Simi said. “But I honestly don’t like it. She already has a name “Deja” and I would prefer people call her that.”

The nickname “Duduke” was born from Simi’s hit single of the same title, which she released while pregnant. At the time, many fans believed the emotional song was a tribute to her unborn child, and the name stuck. Since then, Deja has been lovingly referred to as “Duduke” by fans who followed Simi’s motherhood journey from the start.

Simi went on to explain the actual meaning behind the song’s title: “Duduke” simply refers to the rhythmic beat of a drum  not a name with any deep or personal significance. That’s one of the reasons she finds it uncomfortable when people use it to refer to her daughter.

Despite her gentle request, some fans haven’t taken it lightly. Many responded on social media, insisting that because Simi introduced the term to the public, they’ll keep using it. Some even argued that she doesn’t have the right to control what fans choose to call her child.

Regardless of the pushback, Simi remains a doting and protective mother. Over the years, she’s shared countless sweet moments with Deja  from playing the role of the tooth fairy when her daughter lost a tooth, to baking banana cake together and sharing their kitchen adventures online.

While the nickname may have been born from love and admiration, Simi’s message is clear: she simply wants her daughter to be recognized by her real name Deja.
