Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has firmly denied claims suggesting he is planning to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another political platform. The governor made this clarification following increasing speculation that he may be considering a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 4, and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP, declaring that he remains not only a full-fledged member but also a prominent leader of the party in Osun State.

Rasheed condemned what he described as unfounded media reports and rumors implying that Adeleke’s recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signals a possible defection to the APC. He described the claims as baseless and misleading, emphasizing that the governor’s loyalty to the PDP remains unshaken.

According to the statement, the meeting between members of the Adeleke family and President Tinubu was merely a customary visit. Rasheed explained that such engagements are not unusual in Nigeria’s political culture and should not be misinterpreted as a political realignment.

“The media speculation about likely or imminent defection is fake news,” the statement read. “Governor Adeleke remains a member and leader of the PDP in Osun State. The visit by the Adeleke dynasty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a routine courtesy visit. Any interpretation of it as a sign of defection is simply false.”

The governor’s media team urged the public and political observers to disregard the reports suggesting otherwise, noting that such narratives are being peddled by mischief-makers intent on causing confusion and political tension in the state.

Adeleke’s reaffirmation of his political allegiance comes at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is experiencing heightened speculations and realignments. However, the Osun State governor has now made it clear that his commitment to the PDP remains strong, and he has no plans to switch affiliations.

The statement ended with an appeal to the public to focus on the administration’s efforts in delivering good governance and positive development for the people of Osun, rather than being distracted by rumors and political gossip.
