Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor has fired back at accusations that she seized land from a widow, calling the claims baseless and malicious.
In a strongly worded statement, she insisted she legally bought the land 15 years ago and is ready to defend her name through the courts.
Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has responded to viral allegations accusing her of seizing a parcel of land belonging to a widow and her daughter.
The widow had claimed in an emotional video circulating online that the actress took over a piece of land that was left to her family by her late husband, allegedly without their consent.
In her official response, Ozokwor firmly denied the accusation, stating that she legally purchased the land 15 years ago, in 2010. According to the actress, the widow was fully aware of the transaction at the time and had even approached her agent to facilitate the sale.
“In 2010, 15 years ago, I bought a piece of land. The land owner was aware of the sale. In fact, she was the one who approached my agent to help her find a buyer,” Ozokwor wrote in a statement.
She further explained that it wasn’t until 2023 that the previous landowner allegedly attempted to resell a portion of the same land without her consent. Upon learning of this, she promptly fenced off the property.
“Next thing I see, the owner and her daughter on social media crying and accusing me of taking the only land their husband and father left them,” she stated. “This is blackmail, fraud and malicious intent.”
Ozokwor expressed disappointment over the backlash and misinformation being spread online, especially by bloggers who shared the widow’s claims without verifying the facts.
“As social media is not a court, I am pursuing legal means to vindicate my name because it took years to build and is my source of livelihood,” she added. “Now I say to you: Meet me in court.”
She concluded by thanking her supporters who reached out during the controversy, expressing gratitude for their concern and encouragement.
