Muyiwa Awoniyi, manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems, surprised a user on X (Twitter) by gifting her $2,000 all because she made what he described as a “sensible” comment during a heated online discussion.
The exchange began after Tems addressed ongoing online chatter about her body, particularly repeated remarks about her backside. In a powerful and personal post, Tems expressed frustration at the fixation and body-shaming she faced.
“Seven years in, and now I feel the need to speak up. People keep commenting, ‘It’s small, flat, or fat.’ But the truth is it’s my body.’ It’s mine. Stop asking me to show it off, show me yours first. See how that feels?” She wrote. “I never saw a reason to justify or explain it. Truthfully, the less you like it, the more comfortable I feel.”
Her candid statement triggered a flood of reactions across the platform. One user dismissed the debate with a reductive take: “Real ones know she just has big thighs, not an actual ass.” The comment was one of many that sparked frustration.
Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, stepped in with a sharp response: “No single sense do they have on this app. Not even half a sense.”
Another user challenged him, saying he was generalizing the entire platform over one person’s comment: “Only one person tweeted that, and now you’re saying everyone on the app has no sense. Igbati kee you dia omo werey.”
At that point, a user named @chidimmaibe stepped in to support Awoniyi. “It’s not just one person,” she said. “That was just an example. There have been tons of ignorant and foolish comments.”
Impressed by her clarity and reasoning, Awoniyi responded with a gesture few expected; he sent her $2,000. The act instantly went viral, sparking admiration from many users who praised both the point she made and Awoniyi’s generosity.
The moment served as a refreshing twist in what began as a toxic thread, reminding everyone that reason, respect, and thoughtful dialogue can still be rewarded even online.
