TG Omori reveals he only started making profits from music video production in 2023

TG Omori has revealed that despite his fame and demand, he only began profiting from music video directing in 2023 after years of working under financial strain.

The acclaimed Nigerian director admitted battling five years of production debt, which he eventually cleared through his brand influence, inspiring creatives across the industry.

Celebrated Nigerian music video director, TG Omori, has revealed that despite his early success and high demand in the industry, he only began earning profits from directing music videos in 2023.

In a candid conversation with fans on X (Twitter) on Tuesday, Omori revealed that he only began to see profits from his work in 2023. This revelation came as a surprise to many, considering his longstanding presence and popularity in the Nigerian music scene.

Responding to a fan who asked how he calculates production costs and factors in profit without overcharging or undercharging, Omori explained that for years, he operated at a loss.

I only started making profits in 2023, Every time I’m losing money from pickup shoots or something! Budget is never enough. In fact, I was in bad production debt for five years. Just had to live with it, I was paying up and taking more to cover up.

He further explained that it was his brand identity and personal influence that eventually helped him clear the debt. “I was only able to pay it off through money my brand and personality was fetching me. It’s a tough life for creatives. Hug a creative beside you today,” he added, highlighting the financial strain many in the creative industry silently endure.

Omori’s honesty struck a chord with many aspiring creatives, serving as both a reality check and a source of inspiration for those still navigating their own artistic journeys.

It is worth recalling that in 2023, superstar artist Davido revealed during an interview with Beats FM Lagos that he paid TG Omori a staggering ₦100 million to direct the video for his hit song, Jowo. Omori later confirmed the figure in a social media post, underscoring his position as one of the highest-paid music video directors in Nigeria.

TG Omori’s story is a testament to perseverance, proving that even at the top of the game, financial success can take years to achieve.
