Ukrainian Boxing Legend Retires at 37 After Glittering Career

Ukrainian boxing legend Vasiliy Lomachenko has announced his retirement at 37, closing a historic career that redefined technical brilliance in the ring.

From double Olympic gold to becoming a three-weight world champion in just 12 fights, Lomachenko exits with grace, gratitude, and a legacy that will inspire generations.

Ukrainian boxing icon Vasiliy Lomachenko has officially hung up his gloves, ending one of the most illustrious careers in modern boxing at the age of 37.

Known for his dazzling footwork, speed, and technical brilliance, Lomachenko leaves the sport as one of its most decorated athletes, both in the amateur and professional ranks.

A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lomachenko’s amateur record reads like a fantasy tale: 396 wins, just one defeat. His Olympic triumphs in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 placed him among the greats before he ever turned professional.

In 2013, he transitioned to the pro ranks and wasted no time making history. He became a three-weight world champion in just 12 professional fights, tying a world record for the fewest bouts needed to achieve the feat.

“I am thankful that, as my career comes to an end, I have generated clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve true victory,” Lomachenko said in an emotional farewell video shared on social media.

Lomachenko’s unique style and ring IQ earned him fans around the world and the respect of boxing purists. He retires with a professional record of 18 wins and 3 losses, including notable victories over the likes of Gary Russell Jr, Jorge Linares, and Luke Campbell.

His final appearance in the ring came in May 2024, where he delivered a masterclass performance to stop George Kambosos Jr. in the 11th round, claiming the vacant IBF lightweight title, a fitting final chapter in a career marked by excellence and determination.

Though retirement closes a remarkable era, Lomachenko’s legacy will continue to inspire the next generation of fighters. From amateur brilliance to pro greatness, “The Matrix” leaves the ring as a true legend of the sport.
