Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has joined the APC and endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, stating he has no regrets.
He praised Tinubu’s leadership since his Lagos days and believes his reforms deserve more time to take full effect.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has publicly thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying he has no regrets about his decision.
Speaking during a formal ceremony at the State House in Uyo on Friday, Governor Eno also announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The event was attended by party leaders and supporters who welcomed him into the APC fold.
The governor explained that his decision to back President Tinubu was rooted in long-standing admiration that dates back to Tinubu’s time as governor of Lagos State. According to Eno, he was working in Lagos as a young professional during that period and was inspired by Tinubu’s leadership style, which he described as visionary and purposeful.
“As a young professional working in Lagos while he was the governor, I have always admired his style of leadership with focus and vision,” Eno stated.
Governor Eno expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reform the country, noting that the energy and commitment Tinubu showed as Lagos governor are now being directed at national development.
“I have no doubt this vigour and renewed energy is being applied to the nation today.” Eno added.
He made it clear that he felt no need to justify his support for the president, emphasizing that it is a personal decision based on principles and belief in the president’s vision for Nigeria.
Eno’s move is expected to shift the political landscape in Akwa Ibom State and may influence party dynamics ahead of the next general elections. His defection and public endorsement have already sparked reactions from political stakeholders within and outside the state.
