Laide Bakare Denies Mocking Biola Bayo Over Divorce, Says Video Was Misunderstood
Laide Bakare has dismissed claims that her recent Instagram post was aimed at Biola Bayo, who announced her divorce this week.
In a video response, Bakare clarified she was unaware of Biola’s situation and condemned social media trolls for spreading false narratives.
Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has addressed claims that she mocked her colleague Biola Bayo following the latter’s recent divorce announcement.
The controversy began after Bakare posted a video of herself dancing on Instagram, captioned with a cryptic message often used in Nigerian social media circles to reference heartbreak or failed relationships.
“All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to. Good morning people,” she wrote.
The post came shortly after Biola Bayo revealed her separation from husband Oluseyi Akinrinde, prompting social media users to interpret Bakare’s message as a subtle dig at the actress.
However, responding to the backlash, Bakare clarified in a video posted on Friday that her message had no connection to Biola’s personal life and was purely coincidental.
“Bad commenters and trolls association, something must be wrong with you,” she said. “Please let us all be guided. It is still June 5th here in California, to be precise. I can never shade my own sister, Biola Bayo. My prayers are with you.”
Bakare further explained that she was unaware of Biola’s situation at the time, as she was preoccupied with her daughter’s graduation and had not seen any updates online.
“Trolls are evil,” she added, expressing frustration over the backlash she received.
Biola Bayo had announced her separation from her husband earlier in the week, expressing regret over the marriage not working out and emphasizing that her wellbeing came first.
Laide Bakare’s clarification aims to put an end to the speculation and reaffirm her support for her colleague during a difficult time.
