Eyewitnesses and social media footage from the crime scene indicate that the victim was driving his Lexus vehicle when a group of unidentified gunmen intercepted him in broad daylight. The attackers reportedly double-crossed his vehicle, abruptly halting his movement before firing two fatal gunshots into his chest. The assailants then fled the scene, leaving his lifeless body slumped in the driver’s seat.
The horrifying incident, which took place at approximately 7:00 p.m., quickly drew a crowd of onlookers and passersby. Among those who rushed to the scene was the victim’s brother, who, in a heart-wrenching act, took the responsibility of driving the deceased’s body to the nearest police station to formally report the killing.
The gruesome footage, which has since gone viral on various social media platforms, shows both the immediate aftermath of the shooting and the state of alarm and disbelief that engulfed the area. Many residents expressed their concerns about the rising insecurity in the state, especially the increasing trend of brazen, targeted killings carried out in public places.
Reacting to inquiries about the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in an official statement. According to SP Ikenga, preliminary investigations indicate that the killing is suspected to be cult-related.
“The command can confirm that the killing was cult-related,” Ikenga stated. “Following a swift response by our operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, we were able to apprehend one suspect in connection with the attack. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.”
He further added that the police have successfully recovered the victim’s vehicle from the crime scene, and the deceased’s body has been taken to the morgue for autopsy and further examination.
Ikenga also reassured the public that the police command remains committed to ensuring justice is served and to restoring safety in the region. “We are actively investigating this case, and further updates will be communicated as soon as new developments arise. The safety of our citizens remains our top priority.”
