Boko Haram Kingpin Eliminated by Nigerian Forces in Yobe

Nigerian troops have killed a top Boko Haram leader during a major operation in Yobe State.

Several other insurgents were also eliminated as part of the coordinated offensive.

Troops under Operation HADIN KAI, with the help of air support, have successfully taken out a top Boko Haram and ISWAP leader, Malam Jidda, during a fresh military attack in Ngazalgana, located in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The operation also led to the death of many other terrorists active in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.

This development was confirmed on Monday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI.

In the statement, Captain Kovangiya revealed that Malam Jidda, who was known as the Ameer (leader) of Ngorgore and Malumti villages, lost his life during a joint military operation that took place on June 9, 2025. The operation was a combination of ground combat and air raids designed to weaken the terrorist network in the area.

During the mission in Ngazalgana, the troops met strong resistance from the insurgents but eventually overpowered them through intense firepower. The offensive not only killed Malam Jidda but also forced many other terrorists to flee while wounded.

In another military effort in the Timbuktu Triangle, Nigerian forces carried out an ambush that ended in a gunfight, killing more members of the terrorist group. The military also continued its clearing operations in the Mallamfatori area of Abadam Local Government, where more terrorist bodies were discovered along with weapons and equipment.

Among the items seized were AK-47 rifles, multiple rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication radios, and other military gear.

The Army stated that these successful missions are proof of the Nigerian military’s growing success in the ongoing battle against insurgency in the North-East. It reaffirmed its dedication to restoring lasting peace to the region.
