FIRS Rolls Out Unified Procedures to Simplify Tax Services Across Nigeria
The FIRS has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure to unify tax services nationwide.
This will ensure consistency, transparency, and improved taxpayer experiences across all its over 300 offices in Nigeria.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has unveiled a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) designed to bring consistency and clarity to how tax-related services are delivered across its offices nationwide.
With more than 300 branches across the country, FIRS acknowledged that tax services have often varied from one office to another, leaving many taxpayers confused. This newly introduced SOP aims to eliminate that inconsistency and ensure that every taxpayer has the same experience regardless of location.
In a statement released by Mr. Collins Omokaro, who serves as the Special Adviser on Communications and Advocacy to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, the agency emphasized that the updated SOP is a major step in its efforts to improve the taxpayer experience. Omokaro pointed out that, in the past, offices operated with different procedures, which created confusion for those trying to comply with tax laws.
“This reform is focused on people, their experiences, and the lasting impact it will have. It marks progress toward a more efficient and supportive tax system that promotes voluntary compliance and supports national growth,” Omokaro said.
The SOP outlines standard processes for essential tasks such as taxpayer registration, payment, auditing, and enforcement. With this unified approach, FIRS hopes to establish a system that is fair, predictable, and easier for Nigerians to engage with.
FIRS Executive Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji described the SOP not just as a set of guidelines but as a reflection of the agency’s evolving identity. “It represents our dedication to providing honest and transparent service to the Nigerian public,” he stated.
The procedure also supports FIRS’s ongoing digital transformation, blending people and technology to deliver faster and more dependable services. It will also enhance staff performance by offering clear instructions and structured training.
Omokaro concluded by saying, “With this implementation, every FIRS staff member is expected to understand, apply, and reflect the values of this SOP. That’s the path to earning public trust.”
This initiative is part of a larger goal to reshape FIRS into a modern, service-focused organization committed to consistency, transparency, and contributing to national development.
