Davido Was Behind My Sony Music Deal After Leaving DMW, Mayorkun Reveals
Mayorkun has cleared the air on his relationship with Davido, revealing the superstar helped him land his Sony Music Africa deal.
Despite leaving DMW, Mayorkun praised Davido’s continued support, calling him instrumental in shaping his next chapter in music.
Nigerian music star Mayorkun has opened up about the major role Davido played in helping him secure a record deal with Sony Music Africa after his departure from Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). The artist, born Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, shared this insight during a recent interview with 3Music TV, addressing and clarifying the rumors surrounding his transition in the music industry.

Mayorkun, who rose to fame after signing with DMW in 2016, parted ways with the label in 2021. His exit sparked widespread rumors about a possible rift between him and Davido, especially as he went on to pursue solo projects and later inked a deal with Sony Music West Africa. Fans and industry watchers speculated that the departure might have been the result of creative differences or personal issues.
However, Mayorkun has now debunked those rumors, expressing deep appreciation for Davido’s support even after he left the label. According to him, the DMW boss was not only aware of his next steps but actively assisted in bringing the Sony Music deal to life.
“Right now, aside from having my own label, I’m also signed to Sony Africa. Huge thanks to Davido he was the one who made the deal happen,” Mayorkun disclosed.
His statement highlights the strength of their ongoing relationship and shows that Davido continues to support artists he has worked with, even beyond label affiliations. Mayorkun’s appreciation also highlights Davido’s role as a mentor and his significant behind-the-scenes impact on the rise of numerous up-and-coming Nigerian artists.
The singer, known for hits like Eleko, Certified Loner, and Let Me Know, continues to soar in the music industry, balancing his solo ventures while remaining connected to the DMW legacy. His partnership with Sony Music Africa represents a major move toward broadening his influence across the continent and internationally.
Fans have praised the maturity and mutual respect between both artists, calling their relationship a rare example of loyalty and brotherhood in the competitive world of Afrobeats.
