Governor Alex Otti Celebrates New Era in Abia with Commissioning of 14 Rehabilitated Roads in Aba

Governor Alex Otti has unveiled 14 rehabilitated roads in Aba, calling them symbols of a new era for Abia State.

The projects aim to boost commerce, enhance mobility, and revitalize neglected areas through a strategic urban renewal initiative.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has described the commissioning of 14 newly rehabilitated roads across Aba and its surrounding areas as a symbol of a fresh chapter for the state. The governor made the declaration during an official ceremony held at St. Joseph’s Christ the King College (CKC), located at Asa Triangle in Aba, on Tuesday.

Addressing residents, stakeholders, and dignitaries at the event, Governor Otti stated that the series of completed road projects marks not just infrastructural progress, but a profound step toward transforming the urban and economic landscape of Abia. He emphasized that the road network forms the backbone of his administration’s broader urban renewal agenda, which aims to reposition Aba as a thriving hub for commerce, industry, and innovation.

“This is not just the commissioning of roads; we are here to celebrate the beginning of a new era in Abia State,” the governor declared. “Our goal goes beyond the physical asphalt and concrete. We are here to recognize the hopes we have reignited, the aspirations we’ve revived, and the legacy we are building for future generations. Every road opened today is a path to restored dignity and prosperity.”

Governor Otti outlined how the rehabilitated roads including Umuode Road, Bakassi Road, Isu Ihiteukwa Street, and the stretch from Enyimba Junction to Ariaria Gate have been strategically targeted to boost economic activity. He said the improved road network is designed not only to enhance transportation and access to markets but also to beautify the city and raise the standard of living for residents.

“These roads,” he said, “are much more than mere infrastructure. They are arteries of economic lifeblood. They restore old connections, breathe life into long-forgotten landmarks, and open up new possibilities for small businesses, investors, and property owners alike.”

He further expressed gratitude to Aba residents, property owners, and business stakeholders for their cooperation during the construction phase. The governor acknowledged the temporary inconveniences caused during the rehabilitation process and commended the patience and understanding shown by all parties. He also lauded the Ministry of Works and the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) for their professionalism and commitment in executing the ambitious projects.

The event drew praise and solidarity from key government officials. Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the road projects as a testimony to Governor Otti’s people-centered leadership. He said the governor had done so well in Aba that campaigning for re-election in 2027 might not even be necessary.

“The people of Aba have already decided,” said Emeruwa. “They know a working leader when they see one, and they know Governor Otti is working. His development-focused agenda is the best thing to happen to this state in years.”

The Mayor of Aba South, Hon. Obilor Anyanwu, echoed the sentiment, stating that businesses in Aba now operate in a more favorable environment due to the improved road network. He noted that previously neglected areas are witnessing a revival, with increased investor interest and better access for residents and traders.

Speaking on the importance of the projects, the Director General of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Architect Uche Ukeje, remarked that the Otti-led administration has consistently prioritized road infrastructure as a key development driver. He stated that prior to the repairs, the Eziukwu end of the roads was in a deplorable state, posing challenges to both motorists and traders.

“Today, the story is different,” said Ukeje. “The roads we have rehabilitated are now channels for economic growth. They facilitate the smooth movement of goods, ease traffic congestion, and improve the quality of life for Aba residents. They have also enhanced property values significantly.”

Religious and community leaders present at the event lent their support to the governor’s efforts. Representing the Catholic Bishop of Aba Diocese, Professor Augustine Echema, Reverend Fr. Dr. Vincent Ogugua praised the governor’s steadfast commitment to infrastructure development. He stated that the Church stands ready to support the administration’s efforts toward building a better Abia.

Also speaking, Eze Ernest Onwuka, a prominent member of Aba’s business community, commended Governor Otti for aligning his development initiatives with the real needs of the people. He said the road projects are timely and impactful, encouraging the governor to continue on the same trajectory.

The event was further enriched by cultural and educational presentations from students of St. Joseph’s College and pupils from the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Schools, highlighting the community’s excitement and optimism.
