Oluremi Tinubu Explains President’s Support for Enugu Governor, Commends Mbah’s Transformational Projects

Oluremi Tinubu says President Tinubu supports Governor Peter Mbah due to his focus on impactful, transparent governance.

She praised Enugu’s newly transformed TVET College as a powerful example of youth-focused, future-ready development through education and skills training.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has shed light on why President Bola Tinubu has shown unwavering support for the administration of Governor Peter Mbah in Enugu State. According to her, the president is strongly aligned with leaders who utilize public funds transparently and effectively to uplift their people and create long-lasting development.

The First Lady made these remarks during the official commissioning of the newly rebuilt Government Technical College (GTC) in Enugu, now transformed into a state-of-the-art Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College. The commissioning was part of her two-day working visit to Enugu State, which concluded recently.

Mrs. Tinubu praised Governor Mbah for prioritizing education and skills development, especially through the massive transformation of the once-decrepit GTC. She noted that the president has consistently emphasized the importance of good governance and would always support state leaders who channel federal allocations towards meaningful projects that benefit the general populace.

“I’m truly excited about what I’ve seen here today,” Senator Tinubu said. “Some people often say Mr. President supports the Enugu Governor, and I’ll say this: with the kind of infrastructure and transformation going on here, who wouldn’t? Under this administration, states are receiving increased allocations, and the president is pleased when these funds are used judiciously.”

She continued, “The slogan of Enugu State is ‘Tomorrow is Here,’ and indeed, tomorrow is here already. This TVET College is just a glimpse of the brighter future our children and generations to come will benefit from. It’s heartwarming to witness this kind of forward-thinking governance.”

Governor Peter Mbah, while expressing his appreciation to the First Lady, explained that the newly inaugurated TVET facility is one of eight planned across Enugu’s eight federal constituencies. According to him, the goal is to equip the state’s youth with practical and in-demand skills that would prepare them for the future.

“This commissioning marks another significant step in our mission to transform education in Enugu State,” Governor Mbah said. “We’ve moved away from the old model of rote learning. What we are building is a future rooted in experiential, skills-based education that will empower our youth and elevate our society.”

He added that these technical institutions, including Smart Green Schools being built across the state, will serve as a solid bridge to innovation and workforce readiness. “This is not just about education. This is about reshaping lives and building a future where Enugu’s youth can thrive,” he noted.

Further elaborating on the project, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze Mbah, revealed that the new GTC Enugu now features twenty-four modern skill training centres. These centres offer training in areas such as ICT and digital innovation, renewable energy, welding and fabrication, auto-mechatronics, refrigeration and air conditioning, electrical installation, fashion and garment making, and hospitality services.

To support student accommodation, two massive hostels capable of housing 1,000 students have also been constructed within the premises.

“This institution is a cornerstone of our drive to empower Enugu’s youth with market-relevant skills,” Prof. Mbah said. “It represents a critical link between our Smart Green Schools and the professional landscape, preparing students not just for jobs but for leadership in emerging industries.”

It is worth recalling that President Tinubu himself visited Enugu earlier in January to inaugurate several infrastructure projects spearheaded by the Mbah administration. During that visit, he openly commended the governor, noting that his focus was on performance rather than political affiliation.

“He is doing a fantastic job,” the president had said. “The elections are over. What matters now is progress and development. I don’t care which political party you belong to. What I care about is performance, and Governor Mbah is clearly delivering.”
