DJ Obi Reflects on Love, Loss, and Loneliness at 40

DJ Obi has opened up about lost love, revealing how heartbreak shattered his belief in marriage and changed his outlook.

The 40-year-old entertainer shared emotional truths about fatherhood, regrets, and choosing partnership over tradition in a heartfelt podcast chat.

Popular Nigerian disc jockey Obinna Levi Ajuonuma, widely known as DJ Obi, has opened about the emotional toll of lost love and how it has reshaped his views on marriage and relationships. Now 40, the celebrated entertainer shared his candid thoughts on life, regrets, and the complexities of manhood in a revealing interview on the Afropolitan Podcast.

Speaking honestly and with vulnerability, DJ Obi admitted that his belief in the institution of marriage began to fade after a personal heartbreak. “I lost love, so I lost my belief in marriage,” he confessed, highlighting how past emotional wounds and youthful mistakes contributed to his disillusionment.

He explained that his younger self often ignored red flags and failed to maintain emotional openness. According to him, he used to lie, emotionally shut people out, and didn’t fully recognize the impact of generational patterns in his family, particularly the tendency of men to end up with more than one woman. These behaviors, he noted, played a significant role in the collapse of his relationships.

Reflecting on how his career has influenced his personal life, DJ Obi acknowledged that the demands of his profession also contributed to the distance between him and his loved ones. He shared a heartfelt moment about missing the chaos and joy of having his children live with him.

“I like noise in my house 24/7, but I don’t get it. “I don’t get to experience that wake-up-and-run-into-the-room excitement,” he said, referring to his children who now live with their mothers.

Although he remains a man of faith, DJ Obi now leans more toward the idea of partnership rather than traditional marriage. He noted that he’s still on a spiritual journey, praying and seeking clarity about what love and commitment should look like for him going forward.

His story resonated with many listeners, offering a rare glimpse into the emotional world of a public figure often seen behind the decks but rarely heard speaking so openly about matters of the heart.
