Sowore Vows to Sue if Tinubu Includes Him in National Honor List

Omoyele Sowore says he’ll sue if the Tinubu administration ever includes him in a national honours list.

The activist warned against any such move, calling it defamatory and rejecting ties to a government he openly criticizes.

Activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has warned that he will file a lawsuit if the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ever includes his name in a national honors list.

Sowore, who is the founder of the #RevolutionNow movement and a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), made this known on Friday through his social media platforms.

In his words, “If my name is ever mistakenly included on Tinubu’s national award list, I will not only reject the award publicly but also sue for defamation.”

His remarks came after a recent incident during the Democracy Day celebration where the presidency mistakenly listed two living Nigerians, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, as deceased award recipients. The mistake led to an official apology from the presidency.

The event also saw posthumous recognition of several prominent figures. Kudirat Abiola received the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) award for her role in the struggle following the annulled June 12, 1993 election. Others honored include Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (GCFR), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu (CON), Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (CON), and environmentalist Ken Saro-Wiwa, along with other members of the Ogoni Nine, all of whom were granted presidential pardons.

Sowore, known for his outspoken criticism of the All Progressives Congress and President Tinubu, has continued to accuse the government of corruption, repression, and a disregard for civil liberties.
