Anambra Police Arrest Two Over Child Theft, Reunite Victims with Parents in Ozubulu
Two children abducted in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA, were safely rescued after a mother’s urgent report triggered police action.
The suspects were tracked and arrested, with ongoing efforts to uncover more individuals involved in the child theft ring.
The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued two children and apprehended two suspects in connection with a case of child stealing in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on June 12, 2025, when officers from the Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters sprang into action following a distress report by the mother of the victims. According to her account, one of her children had returned home to inform her that two of his siblings were taken away by an unknown individual while they were on their way to her shop near Nwafor Junction in the Eziora area of Ozubulu.
Acting swiftly on the report, the police tracked and arrested 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa at Okpuno-Oba, located in Idemili South Local Government Area. During interrogation, Onyedika confessed to the crime and led officers to the location in Oba where he had handed the children over to Nkechi for further execution of their criminal scheme.
Both children were safely rescued and have since been reunited with their family.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on June 14, 2025. He noted that further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the child theft syndicate. He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Police Command reiterated its dedication to protecting children and vulnerable groups from criminal activities and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety across Anambra State.
