IGP Extends Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit to August 12 Following Public Concerns

Motorists get more time as police delay enforcement of tinted glass permit rules.

The IGP extends the grace period to August 12, aiming to fix access and system issues.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced an extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy across Nigeria. The new deadline has been set for August 12, 2025, giving motorists additional time to comply with the reactivated permit process.

This decision comes in response to rising public concerns over the newly relaunched digital application system introduced by the Nigeria Police Force. Many Nigerians have expressed frustration with the system, citing technical difficulties, accessibility issues, and a lack of clarity on the procedures involved in securing the required permits.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Nigeria Police said the extension aims to provide room for further enhancements to the online portal. The goal, according to the Force, is to make the application process more secure, efficient, and user-friendly. It is also meant to ensure that the system caters to a broader range of users, including those in rural or underserved areas who may face difficulties with digital access.

“The Inspector General of Police has graciously approved the extension of the non-enforcement period of the tinted glass permit policy till August 12, 2025. This is in order to allow for continuous improvements on the application process,” the statement read.

The Force added that the updated application system is part of its wider efforts to modernize policing through technology while ensuring transparency and accountability in law enforcement procedures. Authorities also reassured the public that the permit application process remains free of charge, and no individual or group is authorized to collect any fees on behalf of the police.

Motorists are encouraged to take advantage of the extended window to regularize their documentation before enforcement begins later in August.
