Youths in Benue State took to the streets on Sunday to protest the rising wave of violence in their communities, blocking the Abuja-Makurdi expressway in a show of anger and frustration. The demonstration brought traffic to a standstill, leaving many travelers stranded and causing panic along the usually busy route.

Dressed in black and holding palm fronds, the protesters carried placards with messages calling for an end to the killings and urging the government to act swiftly. They expressed grief and fury over the recent attack in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area, where suspected armed herdsmen reportedly killed over 200 people.

Witnesses said the protest was peaceful but tense, as the demonstrators refused to allow any vehicles to pass. Some commuters abandoned their journeys out of fear, while others waited hours for the road to be cleared.

This protest took place just a day after the deadly attack, highlighting the growing unrest in the state. Although the Benue State Government had earlier cautioned against public protests, the youths said they felt ignored and demanded stronger security measures. They called for justice for the victims and protection for their communities from further violence.
