Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has openly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the government’s handling of the worsening security crisis in the country, particularly in Benue State.
Falz’s reaction comes in the wake of a horrific massacre in Yelwata, Benue State, where over 200 residents were reportedly killed in a brutal attack by suspected herdsmen. The tragedy has sparked outrage across the country, with many lamenting the federal government’s lack of decisive action.
Responding to President Tinubu’s official statement on the incident posted on X (Twitter), Falz accused the President of consistently failing to fulfill his primary constitutional responsibility ensuring the safety of lives and property.
“You have consistently shown that you are incapable of performing the primary duty of securing lives and property of your citizens,” the rapper wrote. “This routine statement does not cut it.”
In a separate post, Falz expressed his frustration over the apparent lack of national urgency regarding the killings. He highlighted how the massacre of innocent civilians has failed to generate adequate public or media attention, compared to other less critical issues.
“Over 200 senselessly slain and burnt alive in Benue and this is not even getting close to enough attention,” he lamented. “Why are we so wicked to ourselves?”
Falz, known for his outspokenness on national issues, has previously used his platform to call out political leaders over governance failures, corruption, and human rights abuses. His recent comments have reignited public discourse on the state of security in Nigeria and the perceived indifference of leadership in addressing such tragedies.
As outrage continues to build, many Nigerians are joining voices with Falz, demanding justice for the victims and a more proactive approach to national security from the government.
