Israel Launches Strike on Iranian TV During Live Broadcast

Iran accused Israel of committing a war crime after a strike hit its state TV during a live broadcast.

The attack escalated tensions, prompting Iran to urge UN intervention.

Iran has strongly condemned a recent Israeli airstrike on its state television station, describing the attack as a deliberate war crime. The strike reportedly hit the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in the capital on Monday during a live transmission.

Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, labeled the attack a “wicked” act and urged the United Nations Security Council to intervene. He stated that the global body must act swiftly to stop what he called the “genocidal aggressor” from continuing its actions against the Iranian people.

According to local reports, the explosion disrupted live programming as the presenter was criticizing Israel on air. The broadcast was cut off suddenly, and the anchor was seen leaving the set. Although the transmission resumed a short time later, the moment was widely shared across Iranian media platforms.

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued its own condemnation, referring to the incident as a “criminal and terrorist act” that displayed inhumanity.

Tensions between the two nations have escalated rapidly since Friday, when Israel launched a surprise series of airstrikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. Iranian authorities say at least 224 people have been killed in the attacks, including high-ranking military officials, scientists, and civilians.

In retaliation, Iran launched a series of drone and missile strikes into Israel, reportedly killing 24 people, based on updates from the Israeli Prime Minister’s office.

Iran has never formally recognized Israel and accuses it of years of covert operations targeting its nuclear program and personnel.
