President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has changed his travel plans, postponing a scheduled visit to Kaduna State in order to head to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The shift in schedule is aimed at addressing the ongoing violence that has severely affected several communities in Benue.
This update was shared in a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, the President’s visit to Benue reflects his deep concern about the insecurity in the area and his determination to find lasting peace.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to meet directly with key stakeholders in the state. These include traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, youth groups, and community heads. The goal is to explore workable and long-term solutions to the persistent violence that has led to the loss of many lives and the displacement of thousands of residents.
In preparation for the visit, a delegation made up of top officials was sent ahead to Benue. The delegation includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, and the chairmen of both the Senate and House Committees on Defense.
A town hall meeting will also be held during the President’s visit. This gathering will serve as an opportunity to hear directly from the people and to reassure them that the government remains committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property.
President Tinubu, who has repeatedly spoken against the violence in Benue, extended his condolences to families who have lost loved ones and urged residents to support peace efforts.
The visit to Kaduna, originally planned for June 18, has now been moved to Thursday, June 19.
