The Benue State Government has announced Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as a public holiday in preparation for the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.

This decision comes in light of the President’s upcoming visit, which is aimed at expressing sympathy to the people of Benue following a series of deadly attacks that have recently shaken the state. President Tinubu had earlier said he would change his schedule so he could visit Benue for a one-day condolence visit.

In an official statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Deborah Aber, it was confirmed that the President will be in Benue to console the residents and leadership of the state over the tragic events that have claimed many lives in different communities.

The state government explained that the holiday would allow residents to properly receive and honor the President’s visit. However, the announcement made it clear that workers in critical sectors will be excluded from the break. Those exempted include health workers, members of the security forces, and staff of financial institutions, who are expected to remain on duty.

The government further encouraged citizens across the state to come out in large numbers to welcome the President and his delegation. The statement described the visit as both symbolic and important, noting that it reflects the federal government’s concern over the security challenges facing the region.

President Tinubu’s visit is seen as a sign of support and a move to address growing insecurity in Benue and similar parts of the country.
