Soludo Approves ₦9.6bn for Road Repairs, Erosion Control in Anambra

Anambra has approved over ₦9.6 billion for road upgrades and erosion control projects.

Soludo’s government targets key sectors like education, transport, and flood management in new push.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has approved contracts worth more than ₦9.6 billion to address erosion problems and improve roads across Anambra State.

The announcement was made following the latest meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), which was held at the Light House, the state’s new Government House in Awka. The funds are meant to tackle flood-related issues, rebuild roads, improve public infrastructure, and upgrade facilities in several communities.

Among the major projects approved is a ₦3.5 billion contract for erosion control, flood management, and the construction of a 2.28-kilometre road linking Umunze and Umuchu. Another project is the construction of 3.9 kilometres of roads inside the Uli campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, which will cost ₦2.65 billion. Additionally, a ₦2.1 billion contract was awarded for building access roads at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education in Nsugbe.

To fix worn-out buildings at the same college, the government approved ₦718.6 million for renovation works.

The council also gave the green light for ₦528.6 million to complete the Country Club project inside the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex. Furthermore, ₦65.6 million will go toward new construction work at the Onitsha Specialist Hospital.

Other approvals include ₦97.3 million for road repairs on Nya Ranch Road in Awka. This task will be carried out by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA). Meanwhile, the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) received ₦55.1 million to install road safety infrastructure, including warning signs, speed bumps, flashing lights, and rumble strips at key traffic points across the state.

Speaking on the decisions, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, explained that these projects are part of Governor Soludo’s larger plan to build a safer, more prosperous state. He noted that both new and ongoing projects show a strong commitment to improving education, transportation, disaster response, and community infrastructure. He called on citizens to continue backing the government’s efforts to develop Anambra into a better place for all.
