Bishop Oyedepo: Nigeria Belongs to All, Not Just the Fulanis

Oyedepo says Nigeria belongs to all, rejects claims of Fulani dominance in fiery sermon.

His remarks stir online debate, with praise, criticism, and calls for more than just words.

Renowned Nigerian preacher and founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, has spoken out strongly against the notion that any single ethnic group holds dominance over Nigeria. During a sermon delivered to his congregation, Oyedepo firmly stated that the Fulani ethnic group does not own Nigeria and emphasized that the country belongs to all its citizens, regardless of ethnicity.

In his words, “Fulanis do not own Nigeria. I don’t have any Fulani roots; I am a born and bred Nigerian. I don’t need a visa to live here. This is not the Fulani Republic of Nigeria, it is the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” His comments have since sparked widespread reactions on social media.

The clergyman’s assertion comes amid growing concerns over rising insecurity and the perception of ethnic favoritism in national affairs. Oyedepo, known for his often outspoken views on governance and justice, used the sermon to call attention to what he perceives as an attempt to hijack national identity and power.

His statement quickly made waves online, prompting mixed reactions from netizens. Some praised him for boldly speaking out against perceived ethnic supremacy, while others accused him of fanning the flames of division.

A user, @ugo_shib, reacted humorously: “Hahaha read the body language, this one nah ‘let it be like say I talk’ moment.” Another, @ORSNigga, criticized the lack of action behind such powerful words, writing: “Na pulpit baba talk reach o! No relief funds or aids to Benue. Just talk and that’s it.”

Others used the moment to compare Oyedepo with late Prophet T.B. Joshua, known for his philanthropy during national crises. “I miss TB Joshua, he for don reach Benue with trailers of food and relief items,” one user commented.

Despite the varying opinions, Oyedepo’s declaration has once again brought to the forefront the national conversation about ethnic balance, governance, and the need for inclusive leadership in Nigeria.
