Comedian Efe Warriboy Criticizes Governor Alia for Declaring Holiday Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit

Efe Warriboy slams Benue governor for declaring holiday during mourning, calls move disgraceful.

Comedian says politics is overshadowing grief as over 200 massacre victims remain unburied.

Newskobo.com earlier reported that the Benue State Government had declared a public holiday in honor of President Tinubu’s visit.

Nigerian comedian Efe Warriboy has strongly condemned Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for announcing a public holiday on Wednesday, June 18, in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the state. This comes amid mourning over the recent massacre in Yelewata, Guma LGA, where over 200 people were killed by suspected herdsmen.

In a statement released Tuesday by Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Deborah Ambe, the holiday was announced to honor Tinubu’s one-day visit and encourage residents to “come out en masse” to receive him. The declaration has triggered outrage, especially from families still grieving their losses.

Reacting via a video posted on Instagram, Efe Warriboy expressed shock and anger, accusing Governor Alia of mocking the victims and their families by prioritizing politics over human life. He condemned the public holiday, questioning the moral judgment behind such a decision.

“I’m trying not to be rude, but what’s happening in Benue is infuriating. Whether you’re a Reverend Father or a Senior Pastor, once you enter government, it’s like a demon takes over. This declaration of a public holiday to welcome the President while your people are mourning, it’s a slap in the face,” Efe said.

He referenced a viral video of a man claiming to have lost 20 family members, arguing that the governor should be in a state of mourning, not celebration. “The President should be visiting quietly, not with fanfare. Is he coming to commission dead bodies?” he asked.

Efe went on to accuse the governor of playing political games to secure favor from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections. “You’re welcoming the President like he just built a factory, but over 200 people were slaughtered and you’re declaring a holiday? This is disgraceful.”

The comedian also lamented the absence of strong leadership in contrast to former Governor Samuel Ortom, whom he praised for speaking out against insecurity in the state.

“Even if you’ve signed some foreign deal to reduce Nigeria’s population, must you rub it in our faces? You’ve disappointed many,” he concluded.

His remarks have sparked widespread debate on social media, with many echoing his sentiments about the insensitivity of politicizing grief.
