Senate plans national summit to tackle insecurity and uncover root causes behind rising violence.

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed that a group of lawmakers will accompany President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a condolence visit to Benue State on Wednesday, following a series of deadly attacks in the region.

President Tinubu postponed an earlier scheduled visit to Kaduna in order to focus on the crisis in Benue, where recent violence has left numerous people dead and several communities displaced.

Speaking on the matter, Senate spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu described the situation as deeply tragic and extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the attacks.

In addition to the visit, the Senate announced plans to convene a National Security Summit. The event will bring together stakeholders including the military, police, civil society groups, traditional rulers, youth and women organizations, community leaders, and members of the media.

According to the Senate, the summit is intended to serve as a meaningful forum to explore and address the underlying causes of insecurity across the country.
