Ondo Government Approves Death Sentence for Convicted Kidnappers

Ondo govt to introduce death penalty for kidnappers, vows tougher stance on violent crime.

Attorney-General says legal changes coming as abductions, cultism threaten public safety.

The Ondo State Government has announced a new policy that will impose the death penalty on individuals found guilty of kidnapping. This decision was revealed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, after the monthly State Executive Council meeting held on Saturday. He spoke on behalf of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, saying the move is aimed at boosting public safety and discouraging violent crimes.

Ajulo explained that the growing number of kidnapping incidents in the state, many of which end in the deaths of victims or the payment of large ransoms, prompted the government to take stronger action. He added that both kidnapping and cultism have become serious threats to peace and public safety.

According to him, legal amendments are being prepared and will soon be sent to the State House of Assembly for approval. These changes will formally introduce the death penalty for those convicted of kidnapping in the state.
