Tragic Road Crash on Katsina–Dutsinma Highway Claims Multiple Lives

All passengers died in a fiery crash on the Katsina–Dutsinma highway after a car somersaulted.

Officials suspect overspeeding and brake failure as investigation into the tragic incident begins.

A tragic accident on the Katsina–Dutsinma highway on Saturday has claimed the lives of all passengers in a vehicle that went up in flames after a crash.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a private car, identified as a Toyota Camry, lost control while in motion. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road, somersaulted multiple times, and caught fire immediately after the crash.

All the occupants of the car were unable to escape before the fire engulfed the vehicle. They were trapped inside and burned beyond recognition. As of the time of reporting, the exact number of victims has not been officially confirmed, but eyewitnesses say no one survived the incident.

Emergency responders were alerted and rushed to the scene, but it was too late to save any of the victims. The burnt vehicle was still smoldering when officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police arrived to assess the damage and clear the area.

The cause of the accident is yet to be fully determined, but initial reports suggest that overspeeding and possible brake failure may have contributed to the vehicle losing control. Authorities have promised a full investigation to establish the facts and prevent future occurrences.

Local residents who gathered at the scene expressed sadness over the tragic loss of lives. Some of them called on the government and road safety agencies to intensify campaigns on safe driving practices, especially during weekends when road traffic is usually higher.

The authorities have also urged motorists to maintain moderate speeds and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey. Efforts are ongoing to identify the victims and notify their families.
