Controversial comedian DeeOne has stirred debate with his recent comments on celebrity visibility and the power of social media in today’s entertainment landscape.
Speaking on Pulse’s “Hot Takes” podcast, DeeOne argued that Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji is no longer as prominent online due to her low social media activity. He claimed that staying silent or private online affects a celebrity’s relevance in the digital space.
“Genevieve not talking much on social media is not helping her. Not posting regularly is reducing her brand,” DeeOne said. “Let me rephrase it anybody who is not posting constantly is not top of mind.”
He went further to compare the screen legend’s current online relevance to that of popular TikToker Peller, claiming the content creator has a stronger presence in Nigeria’s internet space.
“What makes her [Genevieve] different from other actresses? Number one from when? Since which year? Peller right now is more relevant on the internet space in Nigeria than Genevieve Nnaji,” he added.
DeeOne’s remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing on the need for consistent online visibility, while others defended Genevieve’s legendary status and her choice to maintain a low profile.
