FG Dismisses US Security Alert, Assures Abuja Remains Safe

The Nigerian government says Abuja is safe despite a US advisory warning of possible threats.

Officials urge residents to stay calm and trust ongoing efforts by security agencies.

NewsKobo.com earlier reported that the US Embassy had warned its citizens against visiting military sites in Abuja.

The Federal Government has downplayed concerns raised by the United States Mission in Nigeria about a possible security threat in the capital city, Abuja.

This response came after the US Mission issued an advisory warning American citizens to avoid non-official visits to military and government facilities in Abuja, citing growing global security concerns.

According to the US Mission, the advisory was meant to guide its staff and citizens in light of rising threats around the world. It stated that employees of the US Embassy and their families were temporarily barred from visiting military sites or other government locations in Abuja unless for official purposes.

However, Nigeria’s government has rejected any suggestion that the nation’s capital is unsafe. In a statement on Monday, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said that Abuja remains secure for both Nigerians and foreigners.

He acknowledged the right of foreign embassies, including the United States, to issue safety notices to their citizens but stressed that there is no need for panic.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken note of the latest security advisory issued by the US Embassy. While we understand their responsibility to protect their citizens, we want to clearly state that Abuja is safe for all who live, work, or visit here,” Idris said.

The minister further explained that Nigerian security forces are actively working across the country to keep people safe, and their efforts are not limited to Abuja alone.

He added that the security structure in the capital has remained alert and has achieved several successes in preventing and addressing potential threats.

“Nigeria’s security agencies continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and order. Their proactive strategies have helped in detecting and stopping threats before they occur,” he added.

The statement from the Federal Government appears aimed at reassuring both Nigerians and foreign nationals following the US warning. Authorities are calling on the public to go about their daily activities without fear, while also remaining cautious and supportive of security efforts.

This development comes as Nigeria, like many other countries, continues to respond to global and domestic security challenges while working with international partners.
